Zoh Amba (tenor sax) sort un nouvel album avec Chris Corsano (drums) et Bill Orcutt (guitar) intitulé "The flower school". Ce trio élève le jeu des trois protagonistes et montre les compétences magistrales d’Orcutt en matière de soutien, car il prend souvent un ou deux accords simples, les laissant flotter en mutation en arrière-plan ou les divisant en arpèges patients et réservés qui ondulent aux côtés des sculptures circulaires de Corsano et du souffle nerveux de la saxophoniste.

 

Zoh Amba (tenor sax) releases a new album with Chris Corsano (drums) and Bill Orcutt (guitar) entitled "The flower school". This trio elevates the playing of all three protagonists and displays Orcutt's masterful sustaining skills, as he often takes one or two simple chords, letting them float mutating in the background or breaking them up into patient, reserved arpeggios that undulate alongside Corsano’s circular sculptures and the nervous breathing of the saxophonist.

Eve Risser, pianiste, compositrice et improvisatrice, est en complicité avec Joris Rühl pour des compositions de l'artiste français Karl Naegelen dans "Fenêtre Ovale",  nouvel opus chez Umlaut Records.
L’un des juges du prix Paul Acket qu'elle obtient en 2023, le directeur du festival de jazz d’Oslo, Øyvind Larsen, la décrit comme une "compositrice contemporaine qui explore et élargit l’idiome de la musique moderne. Risser joue un rôle important sur la scène européenne de l’improvisation. Son jeu poétique est percussif et physique, allant du solo au grand orchestre".

 

Eve Risser, pianist, composer and improviser, collaborates with Joris Rühl for compositions bythe french artist Karl Naegelen in "Fenêtre Ovale", new opus on Umlaut Records. One of the judges for the Paul Acket Prize which she receives in 2023, the director of the Oslo Jazz Festival, Øyvind Larsen, describes her as a "contemporary composer who explores and expands the idiom of modern music. Risser plays an important role on the European improvisation scene. His poetic playing is percussive and physical, ranging from solo to large orchestra".

Le formidable plan séquence d'ouverture de "Werckmeister Harmonies", le film de by Béla Tarr inspiré du roman hongrois  La Mélancolie de la résistance (1989) de László Krasznahorkai. 

Ce film, constitué d'une trentaine de plans seulement, se construit sur les cendres de l’utopie communiste tout en semblant redouter l’avènement d’une nouvelle barbarie.

 

The fantastic opening sequence shot of "Werckmeister Harmonies", the film by Béla Tarr inspired by the Hungarian novel The Melancholy of the Resistance (1989) by László Krasznahorkai. Capriccio for violin and orchestra

From the Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki (1933-2020), an amazing version of "Capriccio for violin and orchestra" (1967)  by Wanda Wilkomirska (vl) & the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw conducted by Andrzej Markowski.
Recorded live at the Warsaw Autumn Festival in 1968 by the National Polish TV.

The composition has no tempo marking at the beginning, even though the last bars are marked as Tempo di Valse. It is mentioned in the score that two or three of the bells from the second bell set should be made of 24-karat gold. 

 

 

Du compositeur polonais Krzysztof Penderecki (1933-2020), une splendide version du "Capriccio for violin and orchestra" (1967) de Wanda Wilkomirska (vl) & l'Orchestre Philharmonique National de Varsovie dirigé par Andrzej Markowski. Enregistré en direct au Festival d'Automne de Varsovie en 1968 par la télévision nationale polonaise.

La composition n'a pas d'indication de tempo au début, même si les dernières mesures sont marquées comme Tempo di Valse. Il est mentionné dans la partition que deux ou trois des cloches du deuxième ensemble de cloches doivent être en or 24 carats.

Thorsten Fleisch, born 1972 in Koblenz / Germany. First film experiments with his dad’s super 8 camera when still in school. He studied experimental film with Peter Kubelka at the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Now he lives and works in Berlin where he is also occasionally involved in theatre projects and musical excesses with his band Malende.  

for "Energie!" uncontrolled discharges of several thousand volts expose photographic paper, creating new visual systems completely dependent on the organization and location of electrons.

ENERGY OFF

Mykyta Lyskov started his career in the early 2000s as a classical painter but
later worked as a designer in the advertising business. Since 2007,
he began to create digital animated films. He works and lives in Dnipro,
reflects modern Ukrainian themes in his works, but rethinks them with
the help of absurdity and black humor. Collaborates with musicians,
creating visual accompaniment for live performances, works as a VJ.

"Energy off" is about emergence and transformation with sound by Bryan Eubanks and Jason Kahn

TALITAKUM

 The trio Avalanche Kaito is a meeting between Burkina Faso born urban griot Kaito Winse and fellow experimentalists Belgian guitarist Nico Gitto and French drummer/producer Benjamin Chaval. This transnational avant-rock trio created waves with their visceral self-titled 2022 debut, bagging notable festival appearances (Supersonic, End of the Road), a KEXP session and much deserved critical and audience enthusiasm. 

Polyrythmic futurism, raw epiphanies, Burkinabe parables: Gitto’s angular guitar riffs seem at the beck and call of Kaito Winse’s forceful speech-song, as Benjamin Chaval layers perfectly punchy drums build the lockstep rythmic.

TOC - Theory of constraints

On the label Circum-Disc, the trio TOC is back with Peter Orins (drums), Jérémie Ternoy (piano) and Ivann Cruz (guitar) with a new album which will be released end of May 24.
Five steps: 1 - identify the constraint, 2 - exploit the constraint, 3 - subordinate all processes to the constrained process, 4 - raise the performance of the constraint (if necessary), and 5 - start again at step 1.

THE HANDOVER

Throughout this amazing album, produced by Sublime Frequencies, native Alexandrian Ayman Asfour plays the violin with breathtaking beauty, while not being afraid to make the violin buzz, squeak and rattle at times. Belgian/Norwegian keyboardist Jonas Cambien makes the synthesizer a melodic instrument in its own right, at times evoking almost classical Maqam, while in other moments it seems like he comes straight out of an Egyptian wedding.  The oud forms the backbone in the composition's structure, as Aly Eissa's solos guide the listener from minimalist, meditative drones, to a compelling climax, and back to earth. The Handover was recorded in Alexandria Egypt in January of 2023.

La matrice ainsi obtenue représente ce que nous avons appelé un boost, et que l’on appelle aussi une transformation de Lorentz spéciale.  

 

 

Hendrik Lorentz a mis au point la forme sur laquelle se fonde la théorie de la relativité restreinte. Il exprime le rapport entre les temps et les distances des objets en mouvement par rapport aux objets statiques. Les romans de science-fiction se fondent la-dessus pour parler de voyage dans le temps où, au-delà de la vitesse de la lumière, le temps deviendrait réversible. cf ”Le monde inverti” de Christopher Priest (qui nous a quitté en février dernier). 

 

Groupe de Lorentz, propre et orthochrone, est un sous-groupe du groupe orthogonal qui a réuni les artistes Jean-Philippe Antoine et Jean-Jacques Palix pour ”Un instant très vague et très aigu”, concert live dans l'espace vectoriel sous-jacent du "64" à Paris le 24 Mars 2024.

 

Hendrik Lorentz developed the form on which the theory of special relativity is based. It expresses the relationship between times and distances of moving objects compared to static objects. Science-fiction novels are based on this to talk about time travel where, beyond the speed of light, time would become reversible. cf “The Inverted World” by Christopher Priest (who flied away last February).

 

The clean and orthochronous Groupe de Lorentz is a subgroup of the orthogonal group which brought together the artists Jean-Philippe Antoine and Jean-Jacques Palix for ”Un instant très vague et très aigu” (a very vague and very acute moment), a live concert in the underlying vector space of "64" in Paris on March 24, 2024.

Douro, Faina Fluvial

 

"Douro, Faina Fluvial"- "Douro, travail fluvial" - (1931) est le premier film de Manuel de Oliveira. A la fin des années 20, il achetait une caméra portative Kinamo et réalisait avec l'aide d'un ami photographe amateur un court métrage documentaire sur la ville de Porto, sur le fleuve Douro, et ses activités.
Ce film, tourné de 1927 à 1929 a été critiqué par certains à cause de son aspect naturaliste.
Comme un démarquage explicite du "Berlin, symphonie d'une grande ville" de Walther Ruttmann, ce documentaire met en images des ouvriers, des marins, des pêcheurs travaillant sur les rives du fleuve qui traverse Porto.

 

“Douro, Faina Fluvial” (1931) é o primeiro filme de Manuel de Oliveira. No final da década de 1920, comprou uma câmara portátil Kinamo e, com a ajuda de um amigo fotógrafo amador, realizou um pequeno documentário sobre o Porto, às margens do rio Douro, e as suas atividades. Este filme, rodado de 1927 a 1929, foi criticado por alguns pelo seu aspecto naturalista. Num afastamento explícito de “Berlim, sinfonia de uma grande cidade” de Walther Ruttmann, este documentário apresenta imagens de trabalhadores, marinheiros e pescadores trabalhando nas margens do rio que atravessa o Porto.

 

"Douro, Faina Fluvial" (1931) is Manuel de Oliveira's first film. At the end of the 1920s, he bought a portable Kinamo camera and, with the help of an amateur photographer friend, made a short documentary film about the city of Porto, on the Douro River, and its activities. This film, shot from 1927 to 1929, was criticized by some because of its naturalistic aspect. As an explicit departure from Walther Ruttmann's "Berlin, symphony of a great city", this documentary features images of workers, sailors and fishermen working on the banks of the river which crosses Porto.
