The Danish multi-instrumentalist and composer Anders Lauge Meldgaard works in a wide field of musical expressions, ranging from contemporary music to free improvisation over sound installations, songwriting, orchestral midi collages, chamber music, mixtapes, noisy works for electric guitar sextet and lately also electronic music. The tension between composition and improvisation is often used as a motivating force to propel his musical adventures. He has formerly released critically acclaimed albums under the alias Frisk Frugt.

"12 instrumenter til Henning" is a new arrangement that sees Meldgaard exploring
the music of the Fluxus artist and composer Henning Christiansen. "About the time that passed", a trio piece (for recorder, cello and piano) by Christiansen from 1975 is the source material for a bright and stimulating new work for extended chamber ensemble, with the tonal language the original blossoming outwards via Meldgaard’s own brilliantly colourful sound palette.

The album was released last September on vinyl and digital on the label År & Dag  that Meldgaard is part of.

Note by note, Meldgaard has transformed the music of Christiansen from the original trio score into a new radiant composition. Each part is rewritten through a thoughtful system created by Meldgaard, who reflects on the proces: “I’ve imagined how Hennings piece has grown older, the instruments have grown in size, they’ve propagated and changed their pace”. The three original instruments mutate into twelve for classical trained musicians who all play in their individual tempo during the entire piece.

Les voyelles qu'on sonne

L'artiste performer, historien d'art (Fluxus),

Ben Patterson

RIP Ben Patterson (1934 - 2016) american artist and one of the founders of Fluxus movement.

After a brief career as a double-bass player with symphony orchestras in Canada he settled in Cologne in 1960. There, he was active in the contemporary music scene, performing in festivals in Cologne, Paris, Venice, Vienna and elsewhere.
During this pre-Fluxus period he created and performed some of his early seminal works:  "Paper Piece", "Lemons" and "Variations for Double-Bass"
Late in 1961 Patterson moved to Paris, where he collaborated with Robert Filliou. Commuting between Paris and West Germany, Patterson assisted George Maciunas in organizing the historic 1962 Fluxus Festival in Wiesbaden. His interview with Emmett Williams - for the opening of this festival - became the first article ever about Fluxus.

After Wiesbaden Patterson and his works continued to be an important presence at Fluxus events around the world. In 1963 Patterson moved to New York, where he participated in Fluxus events until the late 1960's, when he returned to pursue "an ordinary life".
After this period, he did occasionally appear with performances and new works for such events as the 20th Anniversary Fluxus Festival in Wiesbaden in 1982 and the 1983 Sao Paulo Bienal, and has been well represented in various exhibitions.

After after, he flied up in the sky a few days ago...

In Memoriam George Maciunas

"In 1978 George Maciunas, founder and chairman of FLUXUS, died in New York at the age of 47.
In invert of these numbers the duration of the piano-duett, performed in his memory by Joseph Beuys and Nam June Paik was planned for 74 minutes.
The end of this memorable evening at the Kunstakademie of Düsseldorf was determined by an alarm-clock, set for 9.14 pm."
