Un chien andalou

"Szenario"  est une pièce pour orchestre et bande magnétique 

composée par Mauricio Kagel en 1982.

Sur une commande de la Télévision Suisse DRS, "Szenario" est une adaptation musicale 

pour le film "Un chien andalou" de Luis Buñuel.

Ce film accompagné de la musique de Kagel fut montré à l'occasion 

du Festival d'Automne à Paris en 1983. (cf prog.)

 

 

"Szenario" is a piece for orchestra and tape composed by Mauricio Kagel in 1982. Commissioned by Swiss Television DRS, "Szenario" is a musical adaptation for the film "Un chien andalou" by Luis Buñuel. This movie, including the musical soundtrack of Kagel, was shown in the Festival d'Automne de Paris in 1983 (see program)

Une autre version musicale de ce film est celle composée par le compositeur argentin Martin Matalon. On peut écouter cette oeuvre intitulée "Las siete vidas de un gato" (1996) et remarquablement interprétée par l'Ensemble Ictus dans le CD "De tiempo y de arena" publié en 2003. Il est vivement conseillé de synchroniser cette musique et le film de Bunuel.

 

Another musical version of that movie was composed by the Argentinian composer Martin Matalon. You can listen to this work entitled "Las siete vidas de un gato" (1996), emarkably interpreted by the Ensemble Ictus, in the CD "De tiempo y de arena" published in 2003. It is strongly advised to synchronize this music and the film by Bunuel.

Vertige

Dedicated to Maurizio Kagel, "Etude N°9" for piano was created by Ligeti circa 1990, using chromatic scales to create a sensation of fall without end. Influenced by the works of Conlon Nancarrow for mechanical piano, he wanted "unplayable" arrangements.
"Vertige" (title of etude N°9) was transcribed for the Player Piano under the direction of Ligeti himself.

Match

"Match" est un film réalisé par Mauricio Kagel en 1966.

Créé pour 3 interprètes, "Match" date de 1964 et a été joué pour la première fois à la Radio de Berlin. A l'origine de cette oeuvre, un rêve répétitif et précis de Kagel lui-même, qu'il consigne soigneusement de façon surréaliste.
Les deux violoncellistes ont un jeu sportif, tandis que le percussionniste semble tenir le rôle d'un arbitre confus et défaillant. Surprenant parfois, la contradiction entre les gestes des musiciens et le résultat sonore, traités indépendamment et donc pas toujours synchrones à l'image.

For 3 performers, "Match" was created in 1964 and played for the first time at the Berlin Radio. At the origin of this work: a repetitive and precise surrealistic dream that Kagel had himself.
Both cellists play a sport game, while the drummer have the role of a confused and failed referee. Sometimes surprising is the contradiction between the actions of the musicians and the resulting sound, processed independently and therefore not always in sync with the image.
