White noise

Written and directed by Olivier Assayas, the masterpiece movie "Irma Vep" tells the story of a French filmmaker René Vidal (played by the inimitable french actor Jean Pierre Léaud) who decides to remake "Les Vampires", the 1916's classic silent movie "Les vampires" by Louis Feuillade.

Using silence, white noise as well short excerpts of neo-punk music, the end of the movie is a brillant avant-garde collage in which the remarkable actress Maggie Cheung slinks through a barrage of slashes, designs and white noise.
A pure jewel.

 

Friday

"Friday" is the meeting in between 3 musicians located in Paris.
Carol Robinson plays clarinets, Serge Teyssot-Gay guitar and Etienne Bultingaire electronic sounds and live effects.
This concert happened at "La Marbrerie" during a cold day of october 2012.

"... The eight chapters of  "L'Écoute Virtuose / Virtuos Listening" are demarcated by images of the surface activity of water, both the water imagery and titling  foreshadowed in the 2006 film. Prosaic is content to allow her portrait of Radigue to be limned via the conventions of such documentaries: archival footage, anecdotes, interviews and performances. She trusts the subject to be sufficiently compelling without the superfluous and self-conscious filmic gestures that irritate the viewer in less confident filmmakers.  The imagery is distilled down to water and the mirror-mind experience of hearing Radigue's music. The listening experience is filmed chiefly during the staggering Triptych concert series, an event honoring Radigue's work held June 12-26, 2011 at various venues around London. Of the eight concerts comprising that event, Prosaic focuses on performances by, and interviews with, Rhodri Davies, Bruno Martinez, Carol Robinson, Charles Curtis, Kaffe Matthews, Kaspar T. Toeplitz, Ryoko Akama, and Emmanuel Holterbach..."

President Rosko

 

Président Rosko, de son vrai nom Michael Pasternak, a animé dès 1964 plusieurs émissions de radio en France, la plus célèbre d'entre elles "Bon dimanche les copains" sur Europe 1, avant d'aller rejoindre Radio Caroline, puis de revenir sur d'autres radios françaises.
Très écouté par les teenagers de l'époque, il a incarné dans ces années-là l'animateur qui nous faisait découvrir le rock anglais naissant.

Sweethearts of Rhythm

The International Sweethearts of Rhythm, considered as the most famous of the 1940s “all-girl” swing bands. It's emerged in the late 1930s from the Piney Woods School, a foster-child institution for African-American children in Mississippi. The “International” part of their moniker was inspired by the Chinese, Hawaiian, Mexican, and Native American heritage of some of the members.

Directed by the vocalist Anna Mae Winburn, the band, as a racially mixed band,was very successfull and toured from 1937 until mid-forties.
