C'est toujours un grand plaisir d'écouter John Tilbury et son délicat art de jouer le piano, préparé ou non. Pionnier des musiques minimalistes, incluant des figures comme Morton Feldman et John Cage, et des musiques expérimentales et improvisées qu'il a partagées avec notament le fameux trio AMM, proche de Cornelius Cardew et des membres du Scratch Orchestra, Tilbury ne cesse de nous réjouir depuis bientôt 50 ans. Sans compter qu'il publie en 2008 la biographie "Cornelius Cardew – a life unfinished" , pour nous fournir de nombreux souvenirs de la liberté de créer de ces folles années 70 et 80.
Aujourd'hui un coffret de 4 CDs intitulé "At home" est publié à l'initiative de Simon Reynell, pour Another Timbre, qui a enregistré John, chez lui, depuis 2006, pour un grand nombre de pièces de divers compositeurs proches de lui: Cornelius Cardew, Morton
Feldman, Howard Skempton, Christian Wolff, Linda Catlin Smith, Keith
Rowe, Mark R. Taylor, John Lely, Michael Parsons, Guillaume Machaut et Dave Smith entre autres. Sont également inclus dans cette anthologie certaines anciennes pièces enregistrées préalablement à 2018. Un splendide florilège!

It is always a great pleasure to listen to John Tilbury and his delicate approach to the piano—whether prepared or not. A pioneer of minimalist music (associated with figures such as Morton Feldman and John Cage) as well as experimental and improvised music—notably through the renowned trio AMM and his close ties to Cornelius Cardew and members of the Scratch Orchestra—Tilbury has been delighting audiences for nearly fifty years. Furthermore, in 2008 he published the biography "Cornelius Cardew – a life unfinished", offering us a wealth of recollections regarding the creative freedom of those wild 1970s and 80s.
