Daniel Johnston is an american singer, songwriter and visual artist who rose to underground fame in the ’80s.
At the age of 58, he flyed away after a heart attack.
Born in Sacramento in 1961, he collaborated with number of artists like Jad Fair (a founding member of Half Japanese, who've also done Daniel's songs), the Butthole Surfers, Bongwater/Shimmydisc guru Kramer, and members of Sonic Youth. He gained considerable notoriety in the last twenty years as an outsider and produced lot of homemade lo-fi cassettes & CDs including his songs, playing guitar, piano and organ.
"When I was a kid, probably nine, I used to bang around on the piano, making up horror movie themes. When I got a bit older, I'd be mowing my lawn and I'd make up songs and sing them. No one could hear me 'cause of the lawn mower."
"Daniel Johnston, a super hero in Paris" is a lo-fi movie directed in 2007 by the french artist Olivier Nourisson in Paris when Daniel Johnston was presenting his drawings in a personal exhibition.
